Facilities
Pavilion
The Pavilion is open to members most days for
use of the members bar, 2 snooker tables and pool table as well as
meetings rooms, which are often used by independent groups. The members
lounge is a large room with a bar and is capable of accommodating all
players and spectators both during and after games, and is decorated with
pictures, trophies and honours boards from the club's history. Outside
there is a large terrace ideal for watching the cricket or sitting outside
on warm nights. The terrace has been recently improved with steps
between levels and is decorated
throughout the summer with a variety of
plants and hanging baskets. There is also a grassy bank at the end of
the terrace ideal for sunbathing. The fee to become a social member of
the cricket section is £15 per year, which entitles you to the use of these
facilities.
Function Room
Also in the clubhouse is a function room which can be kept totally separate of the members lounge and is totally self contained including its own bar, kitchen and a platform ideal for DJs. The room accommodates around 80 people and is used for a variety of private uses including dance classes, parties and presentations. For information or to hire this room call 0161 480 2766 or ask at the bar.
Cricket pitch
Our cricket pitch is one of the biggest in the county, and is of a size suitable for first class cricket. The pitch is in a very picturesque location with trees lining the ground on two sides, and the bowling green and pavilion on another. The final side is next to the lacrosse field so there are very few buildings in view from the ground in summer, with those still visible being some distance away. The ground is very flat and very fast draining meaning fewer games getting abandoned due to rain. The pitch is used extensively with matches most nights in the junior season as well as at weekends. The pitch may be hired for games during the season, for information please contact Mike Short on 0161 429 6267.
Nets
We have a double bay artificial net in the corner of the ground to the side of the car park. This is used throughout the week for practice by all age groups since it was erected 3 years ago. The nets are kept completely off the pitch so there are no problems with fielding on the concrete, and this also has the advantage that it can be used sensibly while the games are being played. We also have access to indoor nets over winter and in the event of bad weather.
Bowling Greens
There are a number of bowling sections based at Stockport Cricket Club and as a result the bowling greens are in use throughout most of the year, with both winter and summer leagues. For information on bowling ask at the bar.
Lacrosse
The lower pitch on the site is the main
lacrosse pitch, used by Stockport Lacrosse Club. The club runs junior
and senior teams for both men and women, with training and matches
throughout the winter and exchange lacrosse tours with teams in the USA.
The club are the most successful team in English Lacrosse and consistently
provide a number of members of the English national team.
Nature Trail
Since 2005 a corner of the site previously
abandoned and overgrown has been converted into a space for wildlife
including bird feeders, ponds and a variety of habitats in order to attract
more
wildlife into the area and help existing species. There are now
in excess of 30 bird boxes on the site, with most of these having been used
for breeding by a variety of birds. Other wildlife such as bats,
foxes, frogs and many types of butterfly are regularly seen on the site and
efforts are being made to attract more species by developing new habitats
such as nesting hedgerows, reed beds and wild flower areas to complement the
existing vegetation and encourage more species. The area contains
paths and benches so people may enjoy this area, but they are asked to keep
to these paths so as to not disturb or damage the wildlife.
