Sainsbury's Superstore, Hazel Grove

On a cold, October morning,  around 40 members of Stockport Cricket Club descended upon Sainsbury's in Hazel Grove. These 40 do-gooders had the job of helping shoppers to pack their bags; a process favourably known as 'Bagpacking' The task was simple: raise enough money to buy new sightscreens. It is a league rule in the Cheshire County League that there must be double sightscreens at either end of the ground so mid-off and mid-on don't have to push them to the right place for when the bowler wants to go around the wicket! Unfortunately, there are only single sightscreens at Cale Green and the unfortunate task of pushing the sightscreen goes to the unlucky fielders placed at mid-off and mid-on! The day itself went very well with the bagpackers raising over £1000 including a cheque by Sainsbury's. The money has gone a long way to covering the costs of the sightscreens and the committee are confident that alongside the new covers, the new sightscreens can be erected for the beginning of next year when Stockport's 1st and 2nd XIs begin their new adventure into the Cheshire County League.

Wilks and John Williamson and the events organiser, 2nd team

captain, Mark Willoughby.

Stockport Cricket Club, Cale Green

'Let's Go Racccinngggg!!' is this usual shout that is heard when race night at Stockport Cricket Club comes around, although this year, a more interactive, child-friendly race night entered the SCC gates. Mike Briggs had organised the revised system for the 2010 race night and it proved an instant success. Instead of watching a video like in previous years, the race track consisted of a vinyl mat with 6 lanes of 40 squares and two large dice. the dice gets rolled, depending on the number it falls on, the corresponding horse moves forward the number of spaces that the second dice falls on! Get it? Took the people who were actually there on Saturday a while to aswell! For example, if the dice landed on 4&5, horse 4 moved 5 spaces forward! It's easy really, promise!! The child friendly process really did prove a success and the night managed to raise over £500 in all. The best odds of the night award though goes to Tom Kidd at 26/1 with only one person (Irene Short) betting on him to win- guess what, he won! Great night all round with special thanks going to the Briggs family: Mike, for organising the whole night; Jack and Georgia for being on the totes and taking bets whilst collecting the bulk of the money and Nicola, who filled the tri-cast race square and was a general big help from tidying up to serving the bar. Thanks again and looking forward to next year already. Pictures to follow..fu
