Stockport CC aims to provide safe and enjoyable cricket for all ages and to all sections of the community. We offer training and competition for children from the age of 6 upwards, with a number of fully qualified coaches. To ensure both the welfare of all children at the club and that the coaching is of the highest standard the club is Clubmark accredited with the ECB. Over recent seasons Stockport's junior sides have consistently won numerous competitions at different age groups, and they have also produced a number of players who played county cricket at youth levels for Cheshire. The junior system is an integral part of the pathway to our senior sides, which are currently very heavily populated by players who have progressed through the club's junior system, particularly the 1st XI, where all 11 of the current team were Stockport juniors.
Stockport CC currently runs junior sides at 4 principal age-groups, namely U11, U13, U15 and U18. In addition we enter an U17 knockout cup, and look to organise soft-ball friendlies for U9 players, with a view to entering a team in league competition in the near future. The abolition of the Cheshire U21 cup, of which we were runners-up in 2007, has meant we no longer run an U21 side. New players are welcome at all ages.
2007 Season Summary:An under 9s team was formed for the first time by the club during the 2007 season, and played a friendly against Romiley and a tournament at the end of the season. Despite defeat to Romiley, the side won their first competitive game but were unable to progress in the tournament against more experienced sides. The lads enjoyed the experience nonetheless and performed well in what for some was their first taste of cricket games, and hopefully this can be built on next year. The under 11s struggled with a very young side this year, but were able to put in encouraging performances and again offer young and inexperienced players friendly and competitive matches, with the highlight being a last over victory over Denton West in a post-season friendly. The under 13s swept all before them in both their High Peak and DCCL divisions, winning both leagues with unbeaten records. Unfortunately they came up short in the High Peak semis and the DCCL final, honourable mentions go to Tom Kidd, Sam Edwards and Kyle Gavin in particular for their performances this year, especially Tom's blistering 50* in the D&C semi final. A number of under 13s have stepped up to higher age groups and even senior cricket and performed with distinction, notably Sam, Tom and Calum Davies. The under 15s, including a number of under 13s, were in contention for the DCCL divisional title until a late defeat left them in 3rd, but claimed the High Peak league crown with a string of impressive performances led by the bowling of Divesh Patel. Again a number of this side have played senior cricket, with Adam Mills, Bruce Roberts, Chris Dodd and George Barber playing major parts. The under 17s shared the Compstall Cup after a tie with Romiley, but had to settle for 3rd in their division after recording their first league defeat for 6 seasons. The entire side played regular senior cricket, including 4 first XI players in Rob Barber, Tom Facer, Alex Hope and Ben Williamson. The under 18s side, based around the under 17s side with 5 other players who again all play senior cricket, with 3 more of them in the 1st XI, won the High Peak League with a resounding victory over Hyde in the final, dismissing them for 54 to record an 8 wicket win.
