Rules of the Cheshire County and Stockport Cricket Club 1888

As revised and adopted at the General Annual Meeting held in the pavilion on the 10th day of November, 1888

1. The name of the club is “The Cheshire County and Stockport Cricket Club”

2. The Officers of the club shall consist of a President, not less than 6 Vice-Presidents, Honorary Secretary and Honorary Treasurer, each of whom shall be an ex-officio member of the General Committee.  They shall be elected at the General Annual Meeting, and shall hold office for one year, and shall be eligible for re-election.

3. The Club shall be under the sole management of a General Committee, which shall consist of the ex-officio members and 18 other members, six of whom shall retire annually in rotation, but shall be eligible for re-election.

4. Each subscriber of £20 and upwards shall be a Life Member, and shall be entitled to all the privileges of the Club.

5. A subscriber of not less than £1 1s. a year shall be entitled to every privilege the Club affords (except on occasions mentioned in Rule 19).

6. A subscriber of 15s. a year shall be entitled to play either cricket or bowls as he may elect, and shall be entitled to all other privileges of the Club (excepting free admission to football matches, and on occasions mentioned in Rule 19).

7. A subscriber of 10s. 6d. a year shall not be entitled to participate in any game on the ground, but shall be entitled to all the privileges of the Club (excepting free admission to football matches, and on occasions mentioned in Rule 19).

8. The General Committee shall have power on such terms as they think fit to admit to membership any youth under 15 years of age who is the son of a Member.

9. Only life members and subscribers of not less than 10s. 6d. each a year shall be entitled to be present or vote at an Annual or General Meeting of the Club.

10. All subscriptions shall become due on the 1st day of May in each year.  Any member desirous of resigning shall signify his intention to the secretary by letter, before the 1st day of May, otherwise he shall be liable for that year’s subscription.

11. The freehold of the Club is vested in Trustees.  All other property of the Club shall be considered as invested in the General Committee for the time being.

12. The General Committee may meet together, adjourn and regulate their meetings as they see fit.  They shall have the sole management of the Ground and Club Property, and also the following powers, viz:-

(a) To fill up all vacancies occurring on all Committees through death or otherwise, excepting in the case of ex-officio members.

(b) To appoint Sub-Committees of members resident in any part of the County, to assist them in furthering the interests of the Club.

(c) To elect members, and to expel from the club any member who, in their opinion, shall be guilty of gross misconduct.

(d) To select what Cricket and Bowling matches shall be played, and make all arrangements in regard to the same.

(e) To determine any questions that may arise upon the construction of anything relative to the Club not provided for by these Rules.

13. Any Cricket Club in the County may become affiliated on paying an annual subscription of £2 2s. and any Club so affiliated may send one Representative to the Annual Meeting, and to any General Meeting, and such Representative shall be entitled to speak and vote on all such questions before the Meeting.

14. A Member proposing a new Member shall be responsible for his subscription for the first year.

15. The General Annual Meeting shall be held either in the month of October or November, of which fourteen days’ notice at least shall be given either by advertisement in one or more of the local papers, or by circular sent to each Member entitled to be present.

16. The General Committee shall, on the requisition of 15 members of the Club, and may on their own authority, summon a Special General Meeting of the members.  At least fourteen days’ notice, stating the object of such Meeting, shall be given either by advertisement in one or more of the local papers, or by circular sent to each Member entitled to be present.

17. A list of Officers of the Club, together with the names of members, shall be exhibited in the Pavilion.

18. The Bowling Green shall be closed for play on such occasions as the General Committee may decide.

19. The General Committee may once in every year hold on the Ground an Athletic Sports, or other Festival, and postpone the same in the case of unfavourable weather, and shall have the power to charge all members (excepting life members) for admission to the Ground for the holding of the same.

20. At the General Annual Meeting, the Honorary Treasurer shall present his accounts, and the same shall be audited by two Auditors elected at such Meeting, and each Member of the Cricket Club shall be entitled to a printed copy of the same when certified to be correct.

21. There shall be a Football Club, to which the following Rules to apply:-

(a) The Club shall be called “The Stockport Football Club.”

(b) The Subscription for the Football Season shall be not less than 3s. each Member.  Life Members and Annual Subscribers of not less than £1 1s. to the Cricket Club shall, without any additional subscription, be members of the Football Club.

(c) The General Committee of the Cricket Club shall determine each year when the Football Season shall commence and terminate.

(d) The Game shall be played according to the Rules of the “Rugby Union.”

(e) The General Committee of the Cricket Club shall have absolute control over all financial matters; and the honorary Treasurer of the Cricket Club for the time being shall be the Honorary Treasurer for the Football Club.

(f) There shall be a President, not less than three Vice-Presidents, and an Honorary Secretary, elected annually by the members of the Football Club, each of whom shall, together with the Honorary Treasurer, be an ex-officio Member of the Football Committee.

(g) The Committee of the Football Club shall consist of the ex-officio members and four members selected by the General Committee of the Cricket Club, together with twelve other members to be elected annually by the Football Club, of whom not less than two-thirds shall be football players; and such Committee shall have power to arrange all Football Matches, select teams, and appoint Captains of the same, but in all other respects shall be a Sub-Committee of the General Committee of the Cricket Club.

22. A copy of these Rules shall be sent to every new Member paying an Annual Subscription of not less than 10s. 6d.

23. These Rules may be altered, abrogated or added to, either generally or for the particular occasion at any General Annual Meeting, or any Special Meeting of the members, by a majority of two-thirds of the members voting on the resolution, provided 21 days’ notice shall have been given to the Honorary Secretary, who shall notify in the Circular or Advertisement summoning the Meeting the nature of the proposed alteration, abrogation or addition.
